MOT Services in Shrewsbury

All About Our MOT Tests

Here at Billcar, we provide our services to both trade customers and directly to vehicle owners. We stock and obtain various spare parts, so that when we inspect vehicles and offer repairs and replacements, we have everything we need. As part of our services, we also offer customers MOT tests, which we are focussing our attention towards today. What is an MOT Test? MOT stands for ‘Ministry of Transport’ and refers to the annual test for safety and exhaust emissions of motor vehicles in the UK. If the test is completed to a satisfactory level, the vehicle passes and the owner benefits from the MOT certificate, which certifies that it is legal to drive. If your vehicle is over three years old, it is required to show its roadworthiness through this testing. The name is actually derived from a government department that no longer exists, but the term is still in official use. About MOT Certificates The MOT test certificates are issues under the umbrella of the DVSA – Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency. This certificate will confirm that at the time of the test, the vehicle has met the minimum environmental and road safety standards that are acceptable. This only covers the vehicle for that year, which is why it must be completed on an annual basis. About MOT Tests Throughout the MOT test, it is necessary to test the following aspects of the vehicle: exhaust and emissions, seats and seat belts, steering wheel, windscreen, bonnet catch, horn, number plate, lights, brakes, tyres and wheels, mirrors, doors, suspension, fuel system, plus the body and structure. A set criterion is used to judge overall whether it is possible to pass or fail the vehicle, following the guidelines issued by the DVSA. If the vehicle fails the MOT test, it is possible for it to be tested again once any repairs and maintenance work is complete, but this must be carried out within 10 working days. Why MOT Tests are Important Put simply, MOT tests are a legal requirement in the UK, so they need to be carried out annually to ensure that you are driving legally. Not only for this reason are MOT tests important, but also because they are there to make sure that you, your passengers and others on the road are all as safe as possible. MOT Tests at Billcar In order to gain a legitimate MOT certificate, it is necessary to get your vehicle tested by an authorised vehicle repair garage such as Billcar. By doing this, it ensures that we meet the minimal criteria set out by the government within the VT01 form. We are also able to help your vehicle pass the MOT by making repairs and replacing any necessary parts.  Contact Us If you would like more information about MOT tests in the Shrewsbury area, come to our local vehicle repair garage. Commercial Truck Parts

Commercial Truck Parts And Accessories

Welcome to Billcar.  As commercial vehicle parts suppliers, we make it our mission to support the delivery companies and tradespeople who rely on their vehicles for their livelihood.  With easy access to affordable commercial vehicle parts, the professional drivers of our nation can get on with doing what they do best. We live in an age of unprecedented availability.  Never before have so many people had so much access to such a wide range of goods and services.  Throughout the developed world, what were once considered luxury items are readily available, in many cases for less money than you have in your pockets right now. Fruit from the tropics, soft furnishings from the middle east, and fine wines and spirits from all corners of the globe; at one time, it would have taken many months for such exquisite items to make their way, by sailing ship and horse-drawn wagon, from their lands of origin to the abodes of the rich and influential.  These days, a click of the mouse can often have them on our doorstep in less than twenty-four hours. Then there are the bulk products and materials, the ones we rarely give any thought to, we just expect them to be there.  The marble for your kitchen worktops, the crude oil derivatives which fuel and lubricate your car, the lithium in the batteries which power your electronic devices – all of these may have travelled many thousands of miles and undergone extensive processing to reach you. The global delivery network which makes this consumer culture possible is like a huge, well-oiled machine – a machine made up of a multitude of smaller machines.  For none of this would be possible without all the cargo ships, aeroplanes, trains, lorries and forklift trucks which move the goods for us. The final link in the chain is the commercial vehicles which deliver these items to business premises, to shops, and to our doorsteps.  And just like the great worldwide delivery machine, these vehicles need constant maintenance if they are to perform at their best. Here at Billcar, we have almost 40 years’ experience supplying and fitting commercial truck parts and accessories to keep local delivery drivers working.  We understand that when you depend on your vehicle for your business, every hour off the road means an hour you can’t earn.  That’s why we have developed partnerships with a wide range of commercial vehicle parts suppliers, who can send us the commercial truck parts we need for your repair or maintenance, and get your van or truck up and running again. Do you prefer to do your own repairs?  That’s fine, we understand that modern business have to cut costs wherever they can.  We can give you a great deal on commercial vehicle parts and commercial truck accessories from a wide range of manufacturers including Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Ford.  And while you’re here, don’t forget to book in for your next MOT inspection, to keep you on the road!

Mechanics Shrewsbury

A Full Range of Services from Shrewsbury Mechanics

Here at Billcar, we aim to provide all the vehicle services our customers need under one roof.  We have over 35 years of experience to fall back on, and during this time we have seen many things change in the industry.  Who could have foreseen, all those years ago, that almost every aspect of a car’s operation would come to be controlled by computers, right down to the engine?  We have moved with the times, and are proud to offer a range of engine remapping options to Shrewsbury motorists.  MOT tests, too, have changed and now cover more aspects of your vehicle’s operation than ever. Other things remain just as they always were.  If you want to get the best out of your motor, keeping on top of the repairs and booking it in for regular services is essential.  Here too, Billcar are ready to help – so why not contact us today and see what we can do to enhance your motoring experience? Car Service Shrewsbury Regularly having your car serviced by a reputable service centre is the best thing you can do for your vehicle.  Motors which have been consistently serviced in accord with the manufacturer’s recommendations are far more likely to give long and trouble free service and are more likely to fetch a high price when they are sold on.  Cars with no service history, on the other hand, are always a gamble, and many buyers won't even consider them. Car Repairs Shrewsbury It’s more important than ever to keep your car in a good state of repair.  Faults in the engine, brakes, and other systems could make it dangerous to drive, while using your vehicle with damaged bodywork could lead to you being pulled over by the police.  Call us as soon as your car develops a fault, and we’ll have you back on the road in no time. Engine Remapping Shrewsbury ‘Map’ is the term used for the computer program which controls the engine of a modern car, and ‘remapping’ is the process of changing that program to alter the way the car drives.  We offer three different remapping services: Economy Remapping will make Shrewsbury vehicles more fuel efficient, however, you are unlikely to notice much difference in performance – until you get to the pump! Power Remapping does what the name suggests, it makes your car more powerful, and therefore faster! Balanced Remapping.  Shrewsbury motorists like this one, it sets up the engine to use less fuel but also give a boost of power when you need it. MOT Garages Shrewsbury It is a legal requirement to have your car tested every twelve months, so come to our Shrewsbury MOT centre and treat your vehicle to the service it deserves.  After all, if you look after your car well, it will look after you.  Whether you are looking for a full engine remap, some repair work or just a cheap MOT Shrewsbury based Billcar can help.

Vehicle Repairs

The Importance of Vehicle Repairs

There are some cases where you may be meaning to get around to getting a repair job done on your car, but life gets in the way and means that you put it off. On the other hand, there may be cases where you aren’t aware of a problem at all. In either case, it is important to regularly service your vehicle and get any required repairs done as soon as possible. At Billcar, we know how important vehicle repairs are when it comes to prolonging the life of your car. It’s Only A Minor Issue It is all too easy to put off something small, believing that it is just a minor issue. However, small things add up, and there are many ways these small things can impact on your car. For example, something as little as needing an oil change could even impact on how much petrol you need just to run your car. It’s always useful to remember that there are many small issues that are good to keep an eye on yourself that can help to avoid needing repairs, such as checking the pressure of your tyres, and the levels of engine oil and screen wash. Servicing and Repairs Whilst an MOT test is a legal requirement to see that your vehicle is fit to be driven on the road, regular servicing is also important in order to flag up potential problems, helping you to see if there are any replacements or repairs that may be needed in the future. It will save you money in the long term, as servicing vehicles means that problems can be spotted before they arise. As a result of servicing and repairs carried out at Billcar, your vehicle is then able to run much more efficiently. Spare Parts and Accessories Here at Billcar, we offer a great range of spare parts and accessories that may be required to meet the needs of your vehicle repair job. From our repair centre, we’re able to get your car back in working condition when a problem is found, no matter how big or small. Whether you have one or two malfunctioning or broken parts, or whether you need a whole engine replacing, we are sure to have the knowledge and experience to get you back on the road in no time. This particular problem is something we typically see of Nissan Navara cars, and so we have plenty of experience working with these models. Learn the Signs If you notice anything unusual about the way your vehicle is running, no matter how big or small, don’t hesitate to get it checked out by the experts. For example, someone may hear a knocking or rattling sound that concerns them, but often if vehicle-owners are still able to physically drive their car they can make the mistake of putting off it being serviced and repaired. The most important thing to remember when it comes to vehicle repairs and servicing is that it is primarily about your safety and that of the other on the road, and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Contact Us If you’re in need of any commercial vehicle servicing or car repairs in the Shrewsbury area, come to our local car repair garage. MOT Services

Getting Your MOT Today

Here at Billcar, we provide MOT services in Shrewsbury for vehicles between class 4 and 7. But did you know that earlier this year there were changes to the MOT test? Back in May 2018, there were many changes. Today we will cover some of the major changes that are now in place when you get your MOT today. Defect Categories When your vehicle comes in for an MOT, we will categorise any defects found as minor, major, or dangerous. It is paramount that all these defects are recorded. If your vehicle is found to have any major defects or dangerous defects then this will result in it failing the MOT test. A dangerous defect means that it has a direct and immediate risk to road safety or environmental impact and you are unable to drive the vehicle until it is repaired. A major defect would also require an immediate repair as it may affect your vehicle’s safety, putting others on the road at risk, and also could have an impact on the environment. Whilst minor defects mean you would still pass the MOT test, you should see to any necessary repairs as soon as possible despite there not being a significant effect on the safety of the vehicle or environment. You may also receive defects that are marked as advisory, which require monitoring in case future repairs are required. A pass is considered the minimum legal standard, and the only way you can make sure it continues to meet this standard is to keep getting your MOT test when required by law. The New Inspection Manual Other than the layout changing from landscape to portrait, there are many changes, with an increase in different sections. There are a whole range of additional test items that have been introduced to this new manual, including brake fluid contamination, front fog lamps, noise suppression material, and more. There have also been some changes with what is considered a major defect, with some now moving to the minor category. Diesel Vehicle Emission Limits Likely due to growing concerns on the environment, global warming, and reducing our carbon footprint, there are now harsher limits for emissions for those with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). This information will depend on the year when your vehicle was first used, whether it is turbo or non-turbo, and the plate value. Additional Points There are many more changes that were made to MOT tests, including vehicle categories, and how these relate to their class and definition. For further information on this topic, visit the government website for full details. Contact Us If you would like to make an enquiry about out MOT tests or any other services, simply complete our contact form, or get in touch via email at engineering@billcar.co.uk. You can also call us on either our landline on 01743291740 or our mobile on 07971063469 to speak to a member of the team directly. We will be pleased to help you with your questions.

Commercial Light Vehicle Repairs

Commercial Vehicle Repairs

Whether you have a fleet of light goods vehicles or your personal trusty van supports you in your self employed one man business, your van is important to you.  Regardless of your work ethic, your determination and resourcefulness, or the level of trust your customers place in you, without your tools of the trade you have lost your livelihood.  People often quote the old adage ‘a bad workman blames his tools’, but is that always true?  Another proverb states that you should ‘always use the right tools for the job’, and in the case of carrying large quantities of products, materials, equipment and tools, how would you manage it without suitable commercial vehicle repairs keeping you on the road to meet the demand upon your services. Anybody that has ever had to leave a vehicle in the hands of a mechanic, while waiting for parts and accessories to arrive before any work can commence, will know the frustration it brings.  This is made all the more difficult when you have time constraints and deadlines to meet.  At Billcar, we know what it is like to have people relying on you to deliver, and we understand your desire to meet the needs of your customers. As a company that offers commercial vehicle repairs we too work in a time-sensitive business, and we aim to be reliable and offer you a satisfactory service. Our family run business provides commercial truck parts and accessories for the Nissan Cabstar and the Renault Trafic, with a 28 day returns service policy available if the need arises.  A lot of products are available for order online, but in the event, you want to talk to someone then please feel free to speak to us in person. You may feel the need to contact us directly if you require the parts quickly, however, we also deliver via a 24-hour courier service as we recognise most commercial vehicle repairs need to be completed as soon as possible. As commercial trucks generally cover a lot of miles, regular repairs are a common feature in business.  However, the shrewd business owner also recognises the need for regular servicing as well as keeping up to date with any maintenance and MOT tests.  This will inevitably reduce the amount of frustration and stress that unforeseen breakdowns can cause you because at the end of the day ‘time is money’.  Billcar offer MOT’s on private and commercial vehicles up to a class 7.  This includes any vehicles that have a weight limit of 3500kg.  As the goods that these vehicles carry are large and heavy loads, the needs and specifications differ from other vehicle classes for MOT’s. Billcar can also offer you a reconditioning service for your commercial light goods vehicles.  If you run and own a fleet of vans and trucks then arrangements can be made to help you keep your vehicles and business in the best condition possible.  Please check out the website today www.billcar.biz

Nissan Pathfinder Accessories

Nissan Pathfinder Accessories

The Pathfinder has been part of Nissan’s line up in some form or another since the 1980s, but it was not until the SUV boom of the noughties that cars like this became a common sight on the roads of towns and cities.  The Pathfinder falls into the ruggedly functional category of off roader, rather than the stylish new sports utility vehicles which are more about image than ability.  Like other Nissan products it boasts a good reliability record, which means that many owners will be willing to perform the routine maintenance required to keep their cars on the road All Pathfinder models featured seven seats, so anyone with a large family will appreciate the space they offer.  They also made good towing cars, and could handle a large caravan or heavily loaded trailer with ease.  The on road ride quality was a compromise, but with a workhorse like this very few drivers are going to quibble about a little lack of comfort. Nissan Pathfinder Parts and Accessories Billcar of Shrewsbury supply Nissan Pathfinder parts and accessories for owners who want to keep their cars going.  While more modern, sportier models like the Juke are more likely to be spotted around town these days, there are still a good number of Pathfinder owners in rural areas who value the car’s no nonsense four wheel drive ability and copious interior space.  Billcar supply parts to the trade, but also have no problem dealing with owners who are looking for Nissan Pathfinder spare parts in order to perform their own repairs and maintenance. The Pathfinder’s engine was a powerful 2.5l diesel, and although engines like this are out of fashion these days it can certainly get the job done.  Engine internals are available on our website, so if your car is having engine trouble have a look through our online inventory or bring your car to us for a full service.  Some featured automatic transmission, while clutch kits for the manual models are available here. Nissan Pathfinder Off Road Parts The car was so capable off road that it has become a bit of a favourite among enthusiasts who like to go out and find rugged roads which test the limits of their cars and their own driving ability.  While the standard vehicle was designed to make light of difficult road conditions, it can always be further toughened up by modifications such as suspension upgrades.  We also supply genuine Nissan Pathfinder suspension parts for those who may have suffered damage to their car and want like-for-like replacements. Other Services Aside from being leading suppliers of Nissan Pathfinder parts and accessories, Billcar Ltd offer a full range of MOT, repair and tuning services on a wide variety of vehicles.  We specialise in reconditioning engines made by Nissan, Toyota, Isuzu, Mitsubishi and Ford.  If you can’t find just what you need for your Nissan Pathfinder on our website, get in touch with us and we’ll be happy to help you out.

Nissan Navara NP300 Accessories

Nissan Navara NP300 Accessories

At Billcar, in addition to providing customers with MOTs, we supply a range of spare parts and accessories. This may be for a particular repair, or it may simply be to give your car that extra something special. Today, we’re going to focus on the Nissan Navara NP300, so you can find out more about the different accessories that you could get your hands on. The Nissan Navara Nissan is a brand of car, recognised the world over. Founded in Japan in 1933, it is famed for its constant innovation, as well as being the biggest producer of electric vehicles.  The NP300 (also known by D23) was manufactured in 1997 as a pick-up truck. It is a third-generation model of the Navara series, which is similar to the D40 model. Accessories for The Nissan Navara The Nissan Navara has many different accessories which can add to your experience of this vehicle that is already packed with various features. Some of the following accessories could offer you that something extra: airbag-safe waterproof seat covers, cattle rails, LED lighting for a tow bar, and more. You may consider a bonnet guard, which uses UV-stabilised acrylic to protection paint and bodywork from stone chips. For aesthetic reasons, rather than practical, there’s also the option to get a custom-made headlamp trim, which can be easily installed without any drilling needed. Another example of an optional accessory is a set of fender flares. These can protect your paint from damage, and give your Nissan Navara a particularly rugged look. Accessories at Billcar At Billcar, we currently stock a lower radiator hose (2016) and a set of genuine front brake pads (2017) for the Nissan Navara. Radiator hoses are recommended to be replaced every four years, but this also depends on the usage. Your MOT should reveal whether this is something you need to consider. When it comes to brake pads, it is necessary to replace them once the pad friction material has worn down to a thickness of 3 millimetres. It is also required to check the brake disc thickness is at least at the safe minimum set out in the manufacturer’s specification, or otherwise, replace them. Contact Us To find out more about our range of spare parts and accessories for the Nissan Navara, please complete our web contact form, or email us at engineering@billcar.co.uk.
