Benefits Of Underbody Protection for Cars

The underside of a car is often coated with a thick cladding (generally made of rubber) that is applied consistently. This is sprayed or painted onto a freshly washed vehicle right after delivery. However, it is also OK to have the undercoating done after several years. It helps keep the undercarriage from getting nicked up even more. Rust prevention is the primary goal of undercoating, which is applied to all exposed metal sections of the vehicle but is especially important to frame rails. Wear can be cut in half by using underbody protection for cars which you may find a service provider near you, Numerous Undercoating Varieties
  • Rubberised coating on the underside

With its help, the undercarriage will be better able to withstand the effects of water, road debris, gravel, and small pebbles. The factory finish would have a reduced potential for flaking.

MOT: keep your vehicle in accordance with the law!

Owning fleet assets requires knowledge and understanding of the relevant legal requirements. One of the most important things to know is that you are legally required to pass the Ministry of Transport (MOT) inspections to ensure your vehicle is safe to drive. MOT inspection procedures ensure that heavy vehicles are in perfect condition, safe and operational so they can continue to work and avoid accidents while in use. What are MOTs? The MOT test is an annual test of heavy vehicles (trailers, trucks, special equipment, etc.) to ensure that the equipment meets safety standards. According to the legislation of the country, all commercial vehicles exceeding a certain weight must undergo an annual MOT regulation test to ensure that they are roadworthy and safe. If the vehicle's weight is greater than that required by the legislation, then it is subject to several separate regulations. What is the purpose? MOT inspection ensures that your equipment is safe to protect the driver, vehicle, and other road users from a potential accident. Having a technical inspection reduces your carbon footprint by tracking vehicles with dirty engines and tired components.  This annual inspection is different from servicing and repairing your vehicle. It is recommended to regularly check the assets of your fleet with specialized and certified technicians in the workshops. In an emergency, it's important to rely on a 24/7 roadside assistance provider to quickly get you back on the road. How often do MOT inspections take place? Typically, commercial vehicles should receive their first test one year after their first registration and then annually thereafter. However, the scheduling of annual inspections differs from country to country.  You risk a fine if you do not present your vehicle for an annual inspection within the mandatory deadline. What documents are needed? The vehicle owner or the authorized user is responsible for ensuring that his documents are up-to-date and truthful. Documents vary depending on your country, so it is recommended that you ask your local inspector technical centre directly. Here are some examples of the minimum documents required to bring:
  • The latest MOT of the vehicle
  • Letter of appointment (if you have one)
  • The vehicle plating certificate
What is checked? The following list includes the basic items checked on the trailers to ensure that your equipment is safe and functioning as intended:
  • Unit identification
  • Brakes
  • Visibility
  • Lights, reflectors, and electrical equipment
  • Doors
  • Roof
  • Axles, wheels, tires, suspensions
  • Chassis
  • Noise and pollution
  • Other equipment
Talk to your local technical inspection centre to learn more about safety requirements. What are the different results?  If there are no flaws or minor flaws with no concern for safety or the environment, the result is "roadworthy."  If a vehicle fails the MOT inspection, there are two options:
  • Serious defect with some safety or environmental concern: it is necessary to re-test after the vehicle repair after some time has elapsed.
  • Critical Flaw: You cannot use your unit unless you repair it. Fix what needs to be fixed and do the MOT test again after. So, if your vehicle has critical flaws, go for a vehicle repair in Shrewsbury.
How and where to pass the MOT? The vehicle owner or the authorized user is responsible for overhauling his leased and/or rented vehicles.  Depending on the country, the technical inspection can be done in an accredited control centre that has specific authorization for heavy vehicles, in an office of Civil Motorization, or in any workshop authorized by the Ministry of Transport.  Only a qualified and certified inspector / local motor vehicle inspector is authorized to carry out a technical inspection. Contact your local technical inspection centre to find the nearest location for MOT and vehicle repair in Shrewsbury

This implies that vehicle owners can return to driving more quickly than anybody would expect depending on the seriousness of the issue and they could even receive same-day service in some circumstances. Auto technicians, however, take the time to hear the issues and fix them since they know how important customer happiness is.

Crucial Tips on How to Pass a MOT Test

Ministry of Transport test or MOT is a safety assessment done yearly to ensure that vehicles meet the minimum standards for road safety, including monitoring exhaust emission levels. The test will evaluate your vehicle's crucial elements to determine if it's safe to be driven on the road. Before taking the MOT, take a look at the following to make it easier for you to pass it.
  1. Brake Fluid

Take a look at the master cylinder and check the "min" and "max" markings. The fluid in the cylinder should be between these two markings. If you see it below the markings, you need to add more to keep your vehicle's brake fluid at the right levels. On the other hand, make sure that it doesn't exceed your car's "max" capacity. It is also crucial that you buy brake fluid intended for the make and model of your vehicle. Check the manual or ask the manufacturer if you aren't sure what to buy.
  1. Mirrors

To pass the MOT, the obligatory mirrors should be in perfect condition. There should be one interior and one offside mirror. You have to make sure that no cracks or exposed damaged edges could affect your view while driving.
  1. All warning lights

If you see your warning light on your dashboard, the ideal thing to do is check your car's manual to see the problem and have it fixed fast. If you don't have it fixed right away, it can be detected in your MOT and might result in failing the test. It's best to resolve it and not let a potential driving problem persist longer.
  1. Lights

Similar to the mirrors, obligatory lights need to be in perfect condition for your vehicle to pass the MOT. These are lamps located in front and at the rear position. The ideal placement of these lamps is not included in the assessment. However, it's highly recommended to check if they have nearly the same height. Also, check if they're operating properly and if there are no obstructions.
  1. Horn

Checking the horn is likely the fastest and easiest part of your preparation. If it doesn't work properly, you can have it fixed right away. Your horn should be audible enough and easily accessible to your driving position.
  1. Seat belts

Broken or frayed seat belts are not acceptable. Before you go to your MOT, you have to make sure they're working well and fixed firmly to the seats or structure of your car. Also, they should click securely and release properly.
  1. Oil

Checking if your car has enough oil is very crucial in MOT. If you don't check it beforehand, your vehicle won't pass the emission level test.
  1. Windscreen

Windscreens are like minefields to check because some marks are passable in MOT, but others aren't. Ideally, if the mark is not more than 10 mm in size and doesn't block the driver's view or the windscreen on the driver's side. Some examples of these markings are cracks, obvious scratches, or chips. If you're not sure, it's best to have your windscreen checked by a professional. When you check your windscreen, you should also include your washer reservoir. You can check if it has ample liquid inside and if your wipers are working correctly.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this guide has helped you in preparing for your MOT. For a hassle-free MOT process, check Billcar Ltd. They offer complete MOTs for different vehicles. If there are damages, they can do the repairs and provide you with parts and services. We also provide chassis treatment on the underbody of your vehicle to avoid rust formation.

5 Top Tips on how to Prepare your Vehicle for Winter

It is easy to become distracted during this time of year, with the festive season looming. Yet the breakdown of your motor vehicle can become a more likely occurrence as the weather becomes colder. At Billcar Ltd, we are a family-owned and operated business with experience since 1981. We guarantee an affordable and reliable service, helping to keep your vehicle in top condition and provide the most rewarding drive possible. To avoid the car repair garage, we would like to share our expertise, so here are our 5 top tips on how to prepare your vehicle for winter. One of the main causes of car failure in the winter is a flat battery, the risk of failure is increased in cold, wet and icy weather. The chemical reactions within the battery reduce because of colder weather compromising performance. A battery should be changed every 3 years. If your battery has not been changed recently, it will be more likely to struggle during the colder season. Increased use of lights and heating will also place greater demand on the battery. If you struggle to start your car, it is possible that your battery is tired and needs replacing. We advise you to get your battery checked or replaced if you think it’s due. As the temperature drops, the condition of your vehicle’s tyres becomes increasingly important. Good grip for steering and braking is essential, but even more so with the greater chance of driving on icy and wet roads in this season. By law, tyres need to be a minimum of 1.6mm tread depth, but having more and best up to 3mm can make all the difference. Winter tyres can also be an excellent investment if you are a frequent driver. Another tip is to check your tyre pressure on a regular; pressure can change as temperatures drop. The engine cooling system in your car should be checked often. In the winter months, this should be a priority. If your antifreeze levels are low, the water in your cooling system can freeze. Make sure it is topped up to the ideal ratio of 50/50 water and antifreeze. It is important not to dilute the antifreeze too much. You can check this with an antifreeze tester. With fewer daylight hours, it is critical to check and clean the lights on a car. Luminosity can decrease as salt and dirt build up quickly when driving on winter roads. For the safety of yourself and others, it is important to keep your lights on during darker days and they need to be clear and bright. Lights, indicators and rear reflectors should be cleaned with a cloth regularly. And to be even more prepared, buy some spare bulbs and learn how to install them so you’re covered if one blows. Alongside wetter and frosty weather, your windscreen and the wiper blades need to be checked. Make sure they are in good working order, assess there are no tears or holes by running your finger down them. Check the windscreen for any minor cracks of chips, too. These can worsen in cold weather, leading to a full windscreen replacement. Give your windscreen a thorough clean inside and ensure you have screen wash fluid with antifreeze. Additional to our tips, we can carry out a vehicle winter check. Get in contact with us if this is something you require. At Billcar Ltd, we offer a car service Shrewsbury locals can rely on.
